Overview

This page will provide information for those who are new to NextGen. To get you started:

Next, here a developing list of links that may shed light on the many goals and perspectives around NextGen:

FAA and JPDO roadmaps: Over the last five years, the FAA and the JPDO have developed a series of roadmaps that are meant to lay out the path to NextGen. Some are quite technical, but all contain essential information about the various systems, concepts, components, technologies, and timelines that will be needed to make NextGen a reality:

Runway Incursions:
On September 25, 2008, the U.S. Government Accountability Office released a sobering, clearly-written report on the state of runway safety in the United States. Anyone who has even the slightest interest in aviation safety should spend a half hour reading this important document.

European “Single Sky”: Did you know that the U.S. is not the only country pursuing airspace transformation? Check out the E.U.’s equivalent to the JPDO, “SESAR – JU” (Single European Sky Air Traffic Management Research – Joint Undertaking).

History lesson: Finally, it’s worth noting that air traffic management — in its most rudimentary form — is almost 90 years old. A brief review can be found here, courtesy of the Associated Press.
